A number of firms in the Globalaw network have exchanged lawyers for periods of time or accepted lawyers from other member firms for a placement. From a Globalaw perspective, exchanges offer members a particularly effective way of getting to know each other’s firms. From a recruitment perspective, lawyer exchanges may enable member firms to attract better young lawyers for whom the prospect of an overseas placement may be what makes the difference. We encourage all of our members to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity. Below are a sampling of real lawyer exchanges that have taken place within the network.
Guerrero, Olivos, Novoa y Errazuriz Attorney Spends Six Months with Jackson Walker
Associate Sebastian Abogabir from Guerrero, Olivos, Novoa y Errázuriz joined the Austin office of fellow Globalaw member firm Jackson Walker L.L.P. for a six-month internship through the American Center for International Law.
Mr. Abogabir's work for Jackson Walker focused on the Environmental & Legislative Practice Group, which correlated to his previous legal experience in Chile. In addition to his time in Austin, Mr. Abogabir had the opportunity to travel to the other Jackson Walker offices throughout Texas and work with attorneys outside of his practice area.
Before arriving in Austin, he participated in the 47th Academy of American and International Law held by the Center of American and International Law in Plano, Texas. The Academy, of which Jackson Walker is a sponsor, is a six-week program that brings together 60 international lawyers from all around the world.
"I see Globalaw as an opportunity to keep our eyes open. For me it is an opportunity to work in a different legal environment, meet new lawyers, and develop new skills," said Mr. Abogabir. "Also, it is an opportunity to build bridges between our law firms and explore new markets for our clients."

Jackson Walker Attorney Spends Three Months with Henry Davis York
In the first lawyer exchange between the Globalaw member firms in Australia and Texas, Jackson Walker Associate Trey Blocker joined Henry Davis York in Sydney for a two-month secondment. Trey practises in legislative and government relations, administrative law and litigation. One of his objectives in coming to Sydney was to explore business opportunities to facilitate the expansion of Australian and New Zealand companies into the US (and in particular, Texas) and vice versa. During the exchange Trey focused on business development and relationship building for the benefit of Jackson Walker and Henry Davis York. Both firms anticipated that there would be a reciprocal exchange from Sydney to Texas in the near future.
After working in Sydney, Trey extended his secondment to the New Zealand Globalaw member firm, Brookfields in Auckland, where he spent the month of August.
